How Me2You Escrow Works
Your money is safe until you confirm the goods.
Me2You holds every payment in escrow. Sellers only get paid once the buyer has the item in hand and is happy with it. This is what keeps the marketplace safe for everyone.
1. Buyer pays Me2You
When you buy something, your card or EFT payment goes to Me2You through our PCI-compliant payment partner PayFast. The seller does not get the funds yet. We hold them in a separate escrow account.
2. Seller ships or delivers
Once we confirm payment, the seller is told to ship the item (or hand it to a Me2You driver). The order moves into "in transit" status and you can track it from your order page.
3. Buyer confirms receipt
When the item arrives, the buyer has 48 hours to check it and tap "Confirm receipt". This releases the funds from escrow to the seller, minus the Me2You marketplace fee.
If you do not confirm within 48 hours and you have not raised a dispute, the system releases the funds automatically. So please check your goods quickly.
4. What if something is wrong?
If the item is not as described, damaged, or never arrived, open a dispute from your order page. The funds stay frozen in escrow while the Me2You team reviews the case. Most disputes are resolved within 3 working days.
Outcomes can be a full refund, a partial refund, or release to the seller. Our decision is based on evidence from both sides (photos, tracking, chat history).
5. Vehicles and property
For vehicle sales, escrow is released only after the buyer has inspected the vehicle and the change-of-ownership paperwork is signed.
For property rentals, the deposit and first month's rent stay in escrow until the move-in date is confirmed. The deposit is held by Me2You for the lease term and refunded according to the rental agreement.
6. Fees
Escrow protection is built into the Me2You marketplace fee. Buyers pay no extra fee. Sellers see the fee breakdown on the seller fees page before they list.
